General Practice Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPPAQ) - updated August 2009The General Practice Physical Activity Questionnaire is intended for use in adults (16 - 74) years in routine general practice to provide a simple, 4-level Physical Activity Index (PAI) reflecting an individual's current physical activity. The index can be cross-referred to Read codes for physical activity and can be used to help inform the decision as to when interventions to increase physical activity might be appropriate. The GPPAQ will help health professionals to assess patients current physical activity levels. Those at greastest risk from inactive lifestyles can be be highlighted through the questionnaire and appropriate physical activity advice given to the patient along with details of opportunities to become more active. It links to the NICE guidance on brief intervention programmes and is a validated tool for measuring activity levels of patients and as such the use of the tool is being recommended to PCTs and health professionals.
IMPORTANT NOTE: August 2009 - the GPPAQ document has been updated as the new read codes table had an error within it. This replaces all previous copies.
