General Medical Services (GMS) Data - Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF)

The new General Medical Services (nGMS) contract came into force on 1st April 2004, and introduced the quality and outcomes framework (QOF), which is a voluntary incentive scheme that aims to reward GP practices for implementing systematic improvements in quality of care. The QOF data covers two different areas:

  • Data relating to QOF achievement
  • Disease prevalence information

Data relating to QOF achievement falls under four main components known as domains:

  • Clinical Domain
  • Organisational Domain
  • Patient Experience Domain
  • Additional Services Domain.

There are currently five years' worth of QOF data. There are 19 clinical areas under the clinical domain, 17 of which have prevalence data. QOF 200809 data was published by the Information Centre at the end of September 2009.
