Healthcare-Associated Infections (HCAI) & Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance
Mandatory Surveillance of Healthcare-Associated Infections is operated by the Health Protection Agency on behalf of the Department of Health. Data are requested quarterly from each of the 173 acute NHS trusts in England by HPA Regional Epidemiology Units.
Trusts supply data on MRSA bacteraemias and C.difficile infections routinely via CoSurv. The mandatory enhanced data is entered onto the HCAI Data Capture System (link:HDCS)
Antimicrobial Resistance Trends
LabSurv is a web-based time series and antibiotic resistance trend plotting tool. It has a user-friendly interface enabling hospital microbiology laboratories to analyse their clinically significant isolates, as reported via the HPA's CoSurv systems.
