Why focus on children and young people?
One in 5 people in England is under 19 years of age. Supporting the health of this vulnerable section of the population is essential for the current and future health of the population as a whole. For key government policies that target children and young people please go to: Child health - policies.
What do we do?
CPHIT focuses on children from before birth to young adulthood. Working with population-level data relating to children’s health and well-being, CPHIT aims to:
- make data sources and meta data more accessible,
- undertake policy-relevant data analysis and presentations; and
- review the quality of, and systems for, data collection.
Who do we work with?
Although CPHIT works primarily through public health partners in PCTs, services for children are frequently multi-disciplinary, and many services with an impact on children’s health and well-being are based in Local Government. CPHIT aims to provide information and support for local multi-disciplinary public health networks supporting the health and well-being of children and young people. Within erpho, CPHIT is well placed to facilitate and develop regional networks of expertise and resources, and to form links with other Observatories, the Department of Health, Department for Education and Skills and other policy makers. The aim is to develop a regional focus for child public health intelligence in the East of England.
