Gini Coefficient

Coming back soon: An educational tool explaining the Gini Coefficient:
  • How is it calculated?
  • What does it mean?
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work):
  • paste your own values,
  • get the Gini coefficient calculated and
  • get the graph drawn on a button press.

Population Pyramid Plotters

2003 Population projections up to 2013 are used to plot population pyramids for the East of England. You can choose two Counties and two Local Authorities/Unitary Authorities and can compare their population distribution by quinary age bands over time (2003 - 2013) and between each other.
Compare how populations are distributed in percent per age band:
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work).
Compare how populations are distributed in absolute numbers per age band:
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work):

Templates for Producing Funnel Plots

Spreadsheet tool for generating funnel plots for SMRs and indirectly standardised rates:
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work).
Spreadsheet tool for generating funnel plots for directly standardised rates:
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work):
Spreadsheet tool for generating funnel plots for rate ratios
- can be used to look at change over time or to compare areas:
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work):

Template for producing standardised rates

Spreadsheet tool for indirect and direct standardisation (Draft - directly standardised ratio to be added):
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work).

Batch Calculation of Directly Standardised Rates

Spreadsheet allowing user to calculate directly standardised rate with 95% confidence intervals for large numbers of populations e.g. wards, in one go:
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work).

Batch Calculation of Gini Coefficient and Health Concentration Index

These sheets allow the calculation of Gini coefficients (G) and Health Concentration Index (C) for all the PCTs in the East of England:
Download an Excel tool (you need to enable Macros to make it work).

Slope Index of Inequality Calculator

A spreadsheet tool designed to help the user calculate socioeoncomic inequalities in health within an area using small area health measures. Based on Low A and Low A. Measuring the gap: quantifying and comparing local health inequalities. Journal of Public Health Medicine 26 (4):388-396, 2004.
