About us
Erpho is one of 12 UK and Ireland regional public health observatories and a member of the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO). Based in Cambridge, our key role is to improve access to, and analysis of, routine population-based data, expertise and methods to improve decision making in the East of England region. The Public Health Observatories were established between 2000 and 2002 as regional bodies supporting population health improvement following the Government White Paper "Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation'' (Cm 4386 - 1999)
We host the regional Monitoring Unit for Substances in the East of England, MUSE (previously known as the Regional Drugs Health Information Unit, RDHIU). Their role is to ensure that accurate and timely data on treatment for substance misuse is collected and submitted to the National Drug Treatment Monitoring System by all Substance Misuse Treatment Agencies in the region.
We also have a small dedicated child health team (the Child Public Health Intelligence Team) whose work is centred around information to promote the health of children, young people and families.
Erpho is the APHO national lead observatory for Primary Care, Respiratory disease and Sustainable Development
